The very first glacier I saw was while flying over the Kaskawulsh glacier in the Yukon Territories. It covers almost 40,000 square meters of the landscape.  That is almost the size of Switzerland.  I could not imagine how solid ice could flow like highways. But it carves through the St. Elias mountain range of the Canadian Rockies striated by the rocks it collects from the mountains sides.  Today the Kaskawulsh, like glaciers around the world, are dramatically receding. It has even changed rivers, from the previous Slims River flowing to the Bering Sea to the Ales River where it now flows to the Gulf of Alaska.
